Flicks, a leading content discovery platform and part of Vista Group, has been named a winner in the Digital Design: Apps and Software category at the 2025 Australian Good Design Awards, one of the world’s longest-running international design award programmes.
The accolade recognises Flicks’ continued focus on intuitive, user-first design and its ability to simplify the entertainment discovery experience across cinema and streaming.
Entries were assessed by more than 80 international jurors across 13 design disciplines and over 35 categories.
The jury commented: “Flicks is Australia’s cinema and streaming content discovery platform. Where has this app been all my life? A really well integrated, well considered solution to a very modern problem. Easy to use, layouts that showcase the content with just enough detail, and sensible off ramps to associated content (e.g. Reviews, cinema specifics and locations), with an architecture that opens the way for more personalised features. Grab the popcorn!
“A polished and practical redesign that improves the way users discover and watch films across cinema and streaming. The experience is smooth, stylish, and thoughtfully localised. The execution is sharp, and it meaningfully enhances the film finding journey for AU/NZ audiences. An inspiring project that raises the bar.”
This marks the second consecutive year Flicks has been recognised at the Good Design Awards, following its 2024 win for the Flicks website. The latest win comes as Flicks reports a 74% increase in campaigns from studio and distributor clients, alongside rising user engagement.
“We may be biased but we think our app is a thing of beauty, so this win feels like a very loud high five,” says Paul Scantlebury, Flicks CEO. “We’ve built the kind of app that movie and TV lovers actually want to use, designed to make choosing what to watch feel less like a chore and more like a treat. Being recognised at the Australian Good Design Awards for a second year running is something we’re really proud of.”
Flicks was also recognised at the 2025 Mumbrella Publish Awards last month, one of Australia’s leading media and marketing industry accolades, where Luke Buckmaster won Columnist of the Year, and Flicks was shortlisted for both Salesperson of the Year - recognising General Manager Dan Michelle - and Website of the Year.
Flicks is available in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, reaching over 22 million unique users globally each year. The platform offers cinema listings, streaming guides, and editorial content designed to help users decide what to watch, and where to watch it.
